Vermont Celebrates First Powerball Jackpot Winner

A Powerball player from Vermont has become the state’s first-ever jackpot winner after matching all the numbers in the latest drawing on June 29th. The grand prize was worth $366.7 million.

The numbers drawn were 8, 40, 49, 58 and 63, with a Powerball of 14. Check out a breakdown of all the payouts, as more than 609,000 ticket holders picked up prizes.

Someone from Illinois matched all five white balls to win $1 million, but the story of the night was all about the Vermont player who grabbed the full jackpot to themselves.

The grand prize had been climbing since it was last won on April 27th by a ticket holder from Arizona. The two-month run created one of the biggest jackpots of the year, and ultimately ended with a moment of history for the Green Mountain State.

The winning ticket was sold at the Middlebury Short Stop in Middlebury, Vermont. The lucky player now has one year to come forward and claim their money.

They can decide whether to take it as an annuity over the next 29 years or a lump sum payment of $208.4 million. Vermont winners cannot stay anonymous, but they can effectively conceal their identities by claiming through a legal trust.

Success at Last for Vermont

Powerball tickets have been on sale in Vermont since July 2003, but the state had not previously produced a jackpot winner over the course of the last two decades.

There are now only five jurisdictions - Maine, Mississippi, North Dakota, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Wyoming, that have yet to get off the mark in terms of jackpot wins.

The grand prize will reset to $20 million for the next drawing, with more big wins set to come in the second half of the year. Keep track of the latest numbers as soon as drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night.
