California Player Wins $1.76 Billion Powerball Jackpot

The grand prize had been building ever since another Californian player pocketed $1.079 billion on July 19. It recently climbed back into 10 figures - making it the first time ever that consecutive $1 billion jackpots have been reached.

A rush for tickets pushed the jackpot up from its estimated value of $1.73 billion, and in the end the winning numbers of 22, 24, 40, 52 and 64, with a Powerball of 10, proved to be an exact match for one lucky ticket. The entry was sold in the Golden State again, at Midway Market and Liquor in Frazier Park in Kern County.

Another Big Winner For California

The cash value of Wednesday’s jackpot was $774.1 million, so the big winner will now have to decide whether to take the lump sum or the full amount as an annuity.

They have a year to come forward and claim their prize, so they may take a bit of time to let the news sink in and potentially consult a financial expert before contacting the California Lottery.
